Arpana Caur

Arpana Caur is a prominent Indian artist born in Delhi in 1954. Raised in an artistic and literary environment, she was deeply influenced by her mother, Ajeet Cour, Punjabi folk literature, Pahari miniatures, and Indian folk traditions. A self-taught painter with a background in literature, her work reflects personal experiences and social, cultural, spiritual, and environmental concerns.

Her art explores themes such as women’s lives, spirituality, time, history, conflict, peace, and the relationship between past and present. Influenced by Sikh values of equality, service, and compassion, she supports social and environmental initiatives through her art earnings. She has exhibited internationally since 1974 and her works are held in major museums worldwide. Her contributions to public art include several non-commercial murals, reflecting her commitment to society and heritage.
