Shilpa Mayenkar Naik, born in 1981, is a contemporary Indian artist from Goa known for her detailed and imaginative works inspired by nature, especially insects. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts (Painting) from Goa College of Art in 2001 and later earned her Master’s degree from the S.N. School of Fine Arts, Hyderabad Central University.

A major focus of Naik’s practice is the world of ants, which she observes not merely as living creatures but as symbols of structure, communication, cooperation, and collective existence. Her ant series transforms these tiny beings into visual metaphors, where lines, patterns, and forms reveal hidden movements and interactions. She often uses pen, ink, and watercolour to create delicate compositions that capture both the physical and conceptual qualities of her subjects.

Through her work, Naik explores the relationship between the microscopic world and larger ideas of life and society. Her unique approach has earned her recognition through exhibitions and awards, including multiple Goa State Lalit Kala Akademi honours.
