Yashwant Deshmukh’s artistic practice explores the relationship between space, form, and silence. Born in Maharashtra in 1963, he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, in 1988.

Working mainly with acrylic on canvas, Deshmukh uses a restrained palette, often dominated by greys, to express stillness, emptiness, and the quietness of space. His compositions focus on the interaction between forms and the negative spaces around them, creating a dialogue between presence and absence.

Everyday objects such as buckets and funnels appear in his works as independent elements, allowing him to examine the metaphysical qualities of objects, space, and perception. Through transparent layers of colour and carefully constructed planes, his paintings create contemplative environments where ordinary forms gain deeper significance.

His works have been widely exhibited in India and internationally, and he lives and works in Mumbai.
