Shipra Bhattacharya, born in 1954, is a contemporary Indian artist known for her deeply expressive paintings centred around the female experience. Her works explore themes of identity, emotions, desire, and the inner consciousness of women. Rather than focusing on physical representation alone, Bhattacharya uses the female figure as a medium to reveal psychological and emotional states.

Her paintings are characterized by bold yet harmonious colours, gentle brushwork, and a unique balance between sensuality and introspection. The women in her works often appear mysterious, carrying a sense of longing and an unspoken search for fulfillment. In her later works, the female body becomes a symbolic surface, marked with images and motifs that reflect personal narratives and inner worlds.

Educated at the College of Arts and Crafts and the College of Visual Arts in Kolkata, Bhattacharya has exhibited widely in India and internationally. Her distinctive portrayal of femininity has established her as an important voice in contemporary Indian art.
