Prabhakar Kolte is a prominent Indian modern artist known for his abstract paintings exploring colour, form, and space. His early works were influenced by Paul Klee, reflected in his textured surfaces, softened colours, and combination of geometric and organic forms.

During the 1980s, Kolte expanded beyond canvas and experimented with installation and performance art, using unconventional methods to explore ideas of colour and identity. These experiments helped him move beyond external influences and develop his own artistic language.

His later paintings focus on pure abstraction, where forms function as arrangements of colour and space rather than recognizable images. His compositions are characterised by strong backgrounds, refined lines, and balanced colour fields. Apart from his artistic practice, Kolte also taught at the Sir J. J. School of Art for over two decades, influencing generations of artists.
