About Laxman Aelay
Laxman Aelay, born in Nalgonda, Andhra Pradesh in 1964, is a contemporary artist known for his nostalgic depictions of rural life. Before becoming a professional painter, he worked as a signboard painter, designer, and book illustrator, experiences that shaped his visual language.
Aelay’s paintings are inspired by the people and surroundings of his village, Kadirenigudem, portraying the lives, struggles, and traditions of rural communities. His early works were characterised by monochrome shades of white, black, and grey, creating a reflective and emotional atmosphere. Later, he introduced vibrant colours to represent flowers, jewellery, and traditional clothing.
After studying Fine Arts at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, he pursued painting full-time. His compact compositions and culturally rooted imagery have earned national and international recognition, establishing him as an important voice in contemporary Indian art.
