Sumesh Kamballur is a contemporary Indian artist whose work reflects the evolving relationship between rural traditions and urban transformation. Born in 1982, he studied painting and graphic art at the College of Fine Arts, Thiruvananthapuram, and later completed his MFA from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan. His artistic vision is shaped by his experiences of village and city life, exploring the memories of a simpler past while engaging with the complexities of the present.

Kamballur’s paintings often depict human figures caught between reality and imagination, where familiar characters transform into dreamlike and symbolic forms. His works examine the gradual fading of traditional village structures and the emergence of modern urban influences. Through expressive forms and imaginative narratives, he explores themes of identity, society, and human desires.
